Despite the progress in empowering women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa, limited empirical research and reliance on anecdotal evidence for decision-making hinder gender equality and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This panel appraises the implementation of the Beijing Declaration, repositioning inclusive, collaborative research as a catalyst for rethinking challenges and reimagining solutions. Drawing on diverse experiences from researchers, policymakers, funders and practitioners, we highlight how this approach uncovers deep contextual issues, amplifies marginalised voices and illuminates opportunities to co-create sustainable solutions despite resource constraints. Situating research as a key driver, the session seeks to accelerate actionable pathways toward gender equality.
