With the Global Refugee Forum coming up in December 2023, the REAL Centre is pleased to announce a seminar series for this term focusing largely on education in emergencies, and the rights and experiences of those affected by crises. Details of the full series here.
Exploring higher education solutions for Afghan women under the Taliban
Dr Marissa Quie, Fellow, Lucy Cavendish College and Convenor, Afghanistan Desk, The Centre for the Study of Global Human Movement, University of Cambridge
Since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, the group has sought to deny women and girls basic human rights and to remove them from public life. Restrictions affect freedom of movement, expression and association. Education above the sixth grade is prohibited and more recently prohibitions on travel abroad to pursue education have been initiated. This seminar explores the challenges of remote educational solutions against the background of intense repression. The discussion is based on insights from two pilot programmes conducted by the Centre for the Study of Global Human Movement.
All REAL Centre seminars are in-person events with the option to join online.
