Language and its critical role in education and training around the world

When

19 Mar 2024
10:30am - 4:30pm

Event Type

Workshop

Friends House, Euston, London 10.30-16.30, March 19th

This day is organised by academics and practitioners who are often frustrated by the limited attention paid to the language in which children learn and are assessed, educators teach and resources are written. We have invited contributors and participants from a range of UKFIET member organisations. We still have a limited number of spaces available for BAICE members and members of the wider UKFIET constituency.

The event is an in-person only event, but we will have some online engagement before and after the event. There will be a small fee to cover lunch and refreshments.

Following a short opening session, we will work in groups of up to 10 participants to explore how language issues interact with one of four core areas of UKFIET members’ work and research:
(1) assessment and evaluation,
(2) the socio-emotional aspects of learning and teaching,
(3) education in crisis contexts and
(4) foundational learning and transitions between stages of education.
We intend for the day to mainly focus on discussion about key challenges and affordances related to language and the identification of potential ways forward.

Expressions of interest to attend are now closed.  For more information please contact s.jeffery@ukfiet.org
