The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with support from Better Purpose, will be hosting two, connected learning sessions on teacher professional development to support quality teaching.
REGISER HERE for the second session focused on in-service teacher development.
Even before COVID-19, the world was facing a learning crisis, with nearly 6 of every 10 children in low- and middle-income countries suffering from learning poverty. Pandemic-driven school closures have deepened the crisis, sharply increasing learning poverty to an estimated 70 percent (The State of Global Learning Poverty: 2022 Update). The quality of instruction a learner receives is a large determinant of their learning outcomes, but low teacher capacity is a significant barrier to improving acquisition of FLN.
In this learning session, we will:
- Review the characteristics of effective teacher professional development.
- Explore what quality, practical, skills-based teacher professional development looks like in practice through exploration of case studies.
- Identify areas for further research and action.
Further details, and pre-reads will be sent in advance.
