The Galilee Foundation is a UK registered charity that empowers underprivileged Palestinian youth in Palestine/Israel by giving them the tools & skills needed to become change-makers. They do this through their Scholarship Programme which provides educational, cultural & capacity development. They also partner with grassroots civil society organisations that work in education & culture to increase their impact & sustainability in order to empower Palestinian youth.
Friends of Birzeit University (Fobzu) is a UK registered charity founded in 1978, championing the right to education for Palestinians under occupation and in exile. Through scholarships, fellowships, and advocacy, they work to promote Palestinian access to education and its role in the creation of a free and flourishing Palestine.
The War on Palestinian Education is a webinar event to discuss how the war in Gaza has also been an attack on Palestinian education. The webinar will be chaired by Professor Arathi Sriprakash, who is Professor of Sociology and Education at the University of Oxford and author of “Learning Whiteness: Education and the Settler Colonial State”. Her research explores reparations and reparative justice in education.
SPEAKERS:
Adi Mansour: Adi holds an LLB in Law and BA in political science from Tel Aviv University. During his studies, he served as a teaching and research assistant. He is also a founding member and activist of the Haifa Youth Movement, and he served as the head of “Almuntada” – the Arab Law Students Forum, Tel Aviv University. Upon completing his studies, Adi clerked in the national public defender’s office in the field of criminal and administrative law. Adi joined Adalah as a staff attorney in 2021, where he works in the Civil and Political Rights Unit.
Sundos Hammad: Sundos is the coordinator of the Right to Education Campaign at Birzeit University, and human rights activist, holds a Master Degree in International studies and interested in Social justice and Academic freedom.
Saleem Lubbad: Saleem is a full-time physicist and a doctorate candidate at the University of Oxford, working on the development of Nuclear Fusion Energy. He has worked on several academic initiatives with Palestinian universities, such as the OxPal Medical Link and the Oxford Jesus College Gaza Scholarship. Saleem is an Arabic language poet, writer, voice-over artist, and TV presenter. His interests span Arabic literature, modern science and technology, the history of science, and Islamic art. He has worked on various museum curation and media production projects, produced and presented a science show for Al-Araby TV, and often pens columns for several newspapers in the Middle East.
Dr Samia Al-Botmeh: Samia is a lecturer at the economic department at Birzeit University and is an activist within the BDS movement.
