With the Global Refugee Forum coming up in December 2023, the REAL Centre is pleased to announce a seminar series for this term focusing largely on education in emergencies, and the rights and experiences of those affected by crises. Details of the full series here.
Using participatory methods to explore educational access in rural school communities in Malawi: Intersections of gender, poverty and HIV/AIDS
Dr Catherine M Jere, Associate Professor in Education and International Development, School of Global Development, University of East Anglia
This seminar shares reflections on the use of participatory approaches and methods to unpack young people’s perspectives on educational access in rural settings in Malawi, and engage school communities in addressing the realities of children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS. It considers critically the extent to which such methods give voice to vulnerable groups, and the challenges, benefits and wider outcomes of adopting a transformative approach to research.
All REAL Centre seminars are in-person events with the option to join online.
